Serving Marines and friends in Alachua County

MEMBERS AND FRIENDS SAY FAREWELL TO JIM YAKUBSIN

On Friday, 6 December 2024, services and honors were rendered to Jim Yakubsin who was responsible for starting up Gator Detachment in the late 90's.

Marine Willie Pintos (1stSgt USMC Ret) has put together a tribute.

The Gator Detachment is made up primarily of Marine veterans and friends.  We formed in Alachua County in 1998.  Our members are from Gainesville, Alachua, Archer, High Springs, Keystone Heights, Hawthorne and other surrounding towns.  Our members were Marines and Corpsmen of WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, as well as peacetime Marines.  We are men and women. We were grunts, logistics, artillery, admin, supply, operations, cooks and many other MOS's, but we were all riflemen and Marines. We now exist to serve not only as a group where Marines of all eras bond together, but unite in efforts to do things for our community.  Joined with us are men and women who were not Marines but choose to serve beside us, helping us in our missions.  Check us out.

GUESTS ENJOYED 2024 BALL

Once again, it was an evening of tradition and ceremony as well as dinner and dancing.  The event began at 5:30pm with the social gathering outside the ballroom.  Guests arrived in their formal attire, some in military uniforms, checked in and had the opportunity to mingle and visit.  The ballroom opened a little after 6pm and at 6:30pm the ceremony began.  It included the Commandant of the Marine Corps' video message, the traditional reading of General LeJeune's message, and the cutting of the birthday ball cake.    READ MORE...
